ASK A LICENSED CLINICAL SOCIAL WORKER
When to refer, what I treat, and how to work together.
What I Actually Do
I'm a therapist for individuals and couples moving through the emotional weight of this season: anxiety, mood shifts, the mental load, relationship changes, and the identity shake-up nobody warns you about.
When to Refer to Me
They're struggling with anxiety or mood.
The mental load is flattening them.
Things have shifted with their partner.
They have trouble naming what they need or asking for help.
They feel like they don't recognize themselves anymore.
What a Referral Conversation Sounds Like
"What you're carrying is a lot, and you don't have to sort it out alone. Barbara is a therapist who works with exactly this kind of season. I think having a compassionate guide in your corner would really help."
When Not to Refer to Me
They need intensive support, including active suicidality or inpatient care.
They need medication management. I'm not a psychiatrist, but I'm happy to refer to one.
They're looking for family therapy. I work with individuals and couples.
How We Work Together
I collaborate with every provider on a client's team because that's where the best outcomes come from.
I most often work alongside psychiatrists, consulting on what they're seeing and how medications are supporting the client.
